Save the Date: May 2026
A monthly edit of plans worth rearranging your calendar for.
Welcome back to Save the Date, my monthly edit of events, openings, and places I find interesting and actually worth booking.
May is here! And selfishly, I’m ready for 80 degree weather every day. But I’ll let the seasons transition as the Lord intended. Patience is a virtue.
Coming off the high of a great (yet stressful) birthday week, all I can think about right now is Met Gala Monday, Act III easter eggs (iykyk), and my summer hair calendar.
Nevertheless, I’m so excited to embrace the outdoors, my local farmers market (which means we’re back to making fresh guac!!) and time spent with friends.
I hope May feels a little bit like this….

A few things worth saving the date:
Dinner at Gourmega
Greenwich Village, Manhattan
Recently opened by the culinary trio Ghetto Gastro, it’s their first permanent, self-operated eatery and is a holistic celebration of both African and African diasporic culture. With a reserve-by-Instagram DM system, the team hosts two nightly services with a maximum of 14 guests. To add, it shares space with food insecurity charity Rethink Food, to which the restaurant directs all of its profits. Adding to my Beli right now!
Prospect Park, Manhattan
Mother’s Day is coming up and because we love the moms, why not celebrate with a mother’s day picnic in the park? Food, activities, giveaways, seems like fun to me. Take your mom, take your friends and enjoy yourself.
Based in Munich, Germany
I've come across multiple viral videos of Chelo’s events — both large and small, both classy theater and dark club — and every event looks amazing. Now I have a reason to visit Germany.
Need background music for a slow morning? see Chelo x Soulection below.
Stevie: A Life in the Key of Songs at Brooklyn Academy of Music
Fort Greene, Brooklyn
Hotter Than July has been on repeat in my household for the past few weeks, amongst a host of late 70s and early 80s music. Hearing some of Stevie's most influential albums performed by an orchestra feels like a can't-miss.
Artist Spotlight: Samara Joy at the New York Philharmonic
Upper West Side, Manhattan
Ever since seeing Samara Joy at The Blue Note a couple of years ago, I’ve been wanting to see her live again. David Geffen Hall is one of the best acoustic buildings to see live music, so the space just the cherry on top of a sure-to-be incredible performance.
If you can’t make it: Samara Joy curates, and sometimes performs, Jazz Night & Jam at The Corner Lounge Bistro in Harlem. She’s performing a few dates this month!
The 2026 Kahn Humanities Series Presents Professor Angela Y. Davis
Prospect Park, Brooklyn
What better way to end the first half of a crazy 2026 than seeing Angela Davis in conversation on our democracy. I quite literally saw this when there was still rsvps available, then I forgot to register (a rookie mistake!). If you’ll be here, then enjoy it for me.
That’s all for this month. I’d love to hear what you all are finding, attending, and booking. Leave a comment and let’s chat about it!
